A section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Terminal 1E has been reopened after a temporary closure, following a fire incident.

In a new update on Monday, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said the terminal is now operational.

"Further to our earlier statement, we're pleased to announce that Terminal 1E (T1E) at JKIA is now fully operational," the authority said.

The incident occurred at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport's Terminal 1E Monday morning and was caused by an electrical fault.

“The situation was quickly contained, with no injuries or casualties resulting from the incident,” KAA said in a statement.

“Following this, power to Terminal 1E has been temporarily shut off as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all within our premises."

KAA added that to mitigate any inconvenience this may cause, all flight arrival operations were redirected to Terminal 1A until further notice.

Passengers and staff were evacuated from the affected area.

The terminal handles some of the international flights including British Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Lufthansa.
