Critical services at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital have been paralysed after medical doctors went on strike.
The doctors at the public health facility are pushing for better remuneration.
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union Uasin Branch secretary general Jackson Mulei said they will not resume their duties until their plights are addressed.
“We shall continue with the strike for as long as our grievances are not addressed and no amount of threats and intimidation will compel us to return to work,” stated Mulei.
Speaking in Eldoret town, Mulei accused the government of failing to honor their demands and disregarding the collective bargaining agreement reached between the two parties.
The demonstrators marched from the hospital to the Eldoret-Nairobi highway carrying twigs and placards during the demonstrations.
Scores of patients seeking services at MTRH were turned away at the gate.
Critical cases were referred to the nearby private hospitals.
The medics are also demanding the posting of medical intern doctors and and hiring of more doctors.
Earlier on, their attempt to storm the county government of Uasin Gishu failed after county enforcement officers locked the gates.
The enforcement officers declared the area a no go zone. However after a long persuasion, three officials were allowed to access the office.
Health Chief Officer Dr Paul Wangwe was forced to climb down from the podium by enraged medics for failing to respond to their demands.
