Two men were on Monday arrested while trying to sneak in 300kg of Marijuana worth Sh9 million from a neighboring country, through Nyametaburo route, DCI has said.

Police said one suspect escaped.

The three suspects were driving at high speed when they approached the Karamu Bridge area, where there was a police roadblock.

According to police, the suspects were unaware that the Isebania Police Station who were privy to the itinerary had led troops in laying an ambush.

"The driver opted to drive past the officers at the roadblock nearly running over one of them," police said.

As this happened, three shots were fired at the tyre of the Prado they were using bringing their journey to a stop.

One suspect fled into the thickets as the other two together with the haul were rounded up.

Police said the two are being held at Isebania Police Station.

"The race to nab the escapee is still ongoing."

The arrest comes barely two days after four suspects including three foreign nationals were arrested in an operation on suspected drug traffickers and peddlers on Saturday.

The DCI in a statement said the suspects were apprehended by Anti-Narcotics and Transnational Organized Crimes detectives.

One of the suspects, a foreign national, was found with concealed pellets of a brown powdery substance in his house at Nasra Estate.

He was taken into custody by the Anti-Narcotics Unit and transported to Muthaiga Police Station."

The second suspect, a 25-year-old Kenyan, was arrested in Ruaraka and taken to the DCI's Mazingira Complex for questioning.

Detectives discovered similar substances hidden under the mats of his vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation in Ruaka town."

"In a separate intelligence-led operation in Nairobi CBD,  two other foreign nationals were cornered and escorted to their residence in Kasarani," DCI said.
