Ruto to Bomet residents: If leaders aren't working, wait for 2027

The President spoke after residents interrupted Governor Barchok's speech by heckles.

President William Ruto told Bomet residents to wait for 2027 If they are dissatisfied with their leaders.

Speaking in Bomet Saturday, Ruto told the residents that they have the power in their hands.

"Nyinyi ndio mnapanga MCAs, MPs na Senators ata huyu Governor, ni kweli ama si kweli ?  he posed

"Nataka niwaambie nyinyi mtulize maneeno na mkuwe watu wa kusoma. Barua ikiwa ndani ya bahasha. Kama kuna mtu hajafanya kazi mgojee siku ya uchaguzi mtamalizana na yeye…Lakini kaa sasa tukona mkutano, wacha governor aongee,"

This losely translates to: You are the people who vote for MCAs, MPs,  Senators even this Governor, true or not true ? 

I want to tell you that you be patient and be people who deal with matters at the ballot box. If there is any leader who hasn't done their work, wait for the elections to deal with them.....But for now we have a meeting and let the Governor speak.

Barchok had just started speaking when he appeared to struggle as the crowd heckled, forcing President Ruto to intervene.

The President had to switch to his mother tongue, Kalenjin to calm down the crowd.

Ruto is in Bomet county to inspect and launch various projects.

The Presdient arrived in Bomet at around 10 am where he proceeded  to launch Kyogong- Kapkesosio- Sigor- Longisa Road in Chepalungu sub county.

Later he will commission Chemamul village transformer maximization project and also inspect the progress of affordable housing .

Last month, services in Bomet Town had been paralyzed after residents staged demonstrations demanding the resignation of Governor  Barchok. 

The angry residents lit bonfires along the Bomet Highway rendering the busy stretch which connects Bomet to Kericho and Nakuru Counties impassable.

In their protests, the residents accused the governor of misappropriation of county funds, thus demanding his immediate ouster from office.

Police officers who were on high alert were forced to intervene and restrain the rowdy mob who threatened to storm Barchok's office.

The officers were forced to lob teargas to disperse the protestors.
