Former Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has expressed appreciation to President William Ruto for nominating him as the Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda.

In an appreciation message to the Head of state, Maangi said he is confident that is experience and dedication will contribute to continued growth in trade and economic development between Kenya and Uganda.

He said his diplomatic skills will also help strengthen the bond between the two countries.

"I am confident, with my experience, dedication, and diplomatic prowess, I will significantly contribute to fostering continued growth and collaboration in trade and economic development between Kenya and Uganda.

"Your Excellency, this appointment will strengthen the strong bonds between Kenya and Uganda which are crucial in advancing mutual understanding and prosperity," Maangi said.

He said that he looks forward to seeing positive progress during his term as High Commissioner, should he be confirmed for the role.

He affirmed that he is committed to seeing continued growth of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"I look forward to witnessing the positive outcomes of my tenure as High Commissioner and remain steadfast in our support for the continued growth of diplomatic relations between our two great nations."

Maangi is among politicians and allies of President William Ruto who landed appointments and nominations as High Commissioners, Ambassadors, deputy ambassadors and Consul-Generals for various countries across the world.

Before his nomination, Maangi had been appointed Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) before the High Court pronounced the positions as null and void.

He previously served as Kisii County deputy governor for two terms, from 2013-2022.

In the 2022 elections, he vied for the Kisii senate seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, but lost to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party candidate Richard Onyonka.

Maangi is also known as one of President Ruto's point men from the larger Gusii region.
