Kisii Governor Simba Arati was Wednesday ordered to appear physically before the Environment and Land Court in Nyamira.

Also ordered to appear in court is acting County Secretary Robert Ombasa.

The duo is to appear before Justice Mugo Kamau on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 10.30 am for the hearing of an application of alleged contempt of court filed by Rigoma Ward MCA Nyambega Gisesa.

Gisesa told the court that the governor allegedly failed to abide by a Court judgment relating to the Keroka Town boundary dispute.

"Due to the urgency and sovereignty of the issue mentioned in the application and the gravity of the matter, the same will be mentioned in open court on March 12, 2024, at 10.30 am, " the Court order dated March 5, 2024, reads in part.

Tension has been high in Keroka following a fresh border dispute between Kisii and Nyamira counties.

An earlier ruling by the court listed Keroka as part of Nyamira county, setting aside an agreement by former Governors James Ongwae and the late Nyagarama that the borderline run through the main tarmac dividing the town by half be used as the beacon.

On Sunday, trouble began after a contingent of armed police reportedly stormed the market and demolished structures belonging to traders.
