A General Service Unit (GSU) officer has been detained by his fellow officers for allegedly having an affair with a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Bungoma county.
Justus Njeru, Kopsiro subcounty commander confirmed that the GSU officer is now detained after he was reportedly caught red-handed by members of the public making love with a minor in a room.
The officer is detained at Kipsigon police station pending investigations.
“At around 10 am on Wednesday, I received a call from Kipsigon police station where the OCS informed me that he had also received a call from Chepkurkur GSU camp officer-in-charge that one of his officers had been caught by members of the public while in the company of a school girl where they were reportedly making love,” Njeru told journalists.
However, the police boss said that after the arrest, the victim was escorted to Kopsiro model hospital where she was examined by the medical officer and a medical report prepared.
“So far we have received the P3 form from the medical officer, the victim together with her mother has recorded a statement at the police station,” he said.
Njeru lauded members of the public for sharing the information with the police that aided the arrest of the suspect.
He affirmed that relevant authorities have taken the matter very seriously, asking the public to remain calm as the security officers begin investigations to unravel the whole truth in the matter.
Bungoma County Deputy Governor Jenipher Mbatiany also condemned the incident calling for speedy investigations into the matter.
Mbatiany lauded the Mt Elgon security team for responding very fast to handle the alleged defilement case.
She called for justice to prevail decrying high gender-based violence (GBV), teenage pregnancy and defilement cases that are on the rise in the region
“We want justice for this minor, this is so disheartening, as we fight these vices in our communities they are those who are still doing them,” the DG said.
The DG asked relevant authorities to dig deep into the case, and get the truth and the suspect to serve as an example.
“Everybody is keen to see how this case will be concluded, the suspect should serve as an example to the rest,” Mbatiany added.
