A 34–year–old man has been arraigned before a Kabarnet court after he threatened to kill his neighbour for allegedly felling a tree into his farm.

Mathew Tuitoek is accused that on March 2, 2024, at about 6 am at Kapchepkor centre within Baringo North Sub-county in Baringo County, wilfully and unlawfully threatened to kill Dennis Ruto his neighbour while armed with a panga.

Tuitoek appeared before Principal Magistrate (PM) Caroline Ateya on Monday and was charged with threatening to kill contrary to section 223(1) of the penal code.

He denied the charges stating that he was wrongly accused.

“Your honour, I did not commit the said offence as alleged by my neighbour,” the accused pleaded.

The court was told that the two had not been in good terms and that the complainant was even trying to keep himself away from the accused after he openly threatened to kill him for no apparent reason.

Ateya in her ruling ordered the accused to be released on a bond of Sh50, 000 with one surety or a cash bail of Sh10, 000.

The magistrate set the case for mention on March 5, where she will give a hearing date in the matter, where four witnesses are expected to testify before the court.
