Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday night held a meeting with Laikipia's political, religious and security leadership over insecurity in the county.

According the DP, in the meeting they deliberated on a host of issues including ways that insecurity can be brought to a complete stop.

Gachagua said that while consultations over the same will continue, they all agreed to work as a common unit in taming insecurity.

"The discussions were fruitful and consultations will continue. We have reached a common understanding that we must work together with the community to successfully restore sustainable peace for prosperity.

"We want 100% security for our people. Even a single life lost is too much. People here have lived in fear for far too long and this is unacceptable. I ask the new County Commissioner (Onesmus Kyatha) and your team to put your heads together with the rest of the security agents," he said.

He told the security officers that the Government can no longer sit back as criminals rape, kill and steal livestock.

The Deputy President announced an additional 250 National Police Reservists (NPRs) to boost security in the troubled county.

"The Government has brought you here for a job. The job is simple. Secure our people. Make sure, our people sleep in peace; make sure women do not live in fear of being raped or girls being defiled; our men must not sleep outside guarding their families," the deputy president said.

Speaking at Ng'arua the Holy Family Catholic in Laikipia West, Gachagua said the development potential of the county has been hurt by rampant insecurity and the Ruto Administration will not allow this to continue.

Present at the meeting were Governor Joshua Irungu, his Deputy Reuben Kamuri Principal Secretary for Defence Patrick Mariru, Wachira Karani (MP Laikipia West), Senator John Kinyua, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, and MPs Jayne Kihara (Naivasha MP).

Others present were Faith Gitau (Nyandarua Woman Rep), Kuria Kimani (Molo MP), Jane Kagiri (Laikipia Woman Rep), Ann Wamuratha (Kiambu Woman MP), Samuel Gachobe (Subukia MP), Johana Ngeno (Emurua Dikirr MP).

Former Laikipia woman rep Cate Waruguru, County Police Commander John Nyoike, County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha, the Speaker of the County Assemby and MCAs, County Executive Committee Members, opinion leaders, among others were also present.
