Bungoma County Assembly and Kibabii University have signed an MoU to boost digital literacy, research and data protection.

Clerk Charles Wafula said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advance knowledge sharing, innovation and technology.

He said it is important for learning institutions and governing bodies to work together to harness the power of ICT for development.

“Kibabii University has for a long time dedicated itself towards academic excellence, research and community empowerment,” Wafula said.

He said integration of ICT in legislative processes will enhance efficiency and promote transparency.

“This collaboration signifies a step towards more connected and digitally empowered governance systems,” Wafula said.

"This is the not the only partnership we have signed with the University, we have also offered attachment opportunities to the students."

The clerk said other areas of collaboration include, capacity building, joint resource mobilisation, sharing e-library facilities and infrastructures, disaster management among others.

Plans are currently underway to establish an ICT resource centre and an e-library within the Assembly premises.

“The ICT centre and an e-library once operationalised will strengthen research within our institutions and across the county by extension," Wafula said.

"The collaboration will see us meet the requirement for disaster preparedness as we shall have outside data back-ups that shall store our data and ensure a smooth data plan."

Kibabii University Vice Chancellor Professor Ipara Odeo said the five-year collaboration seeks to enhance research at the two institutions.

“Our Mou on ICT and digital economy will help MCAs research on the laws they intend to present and pass at the assembly,” he said.

Also present was Speaker Emmanuel Situma, Majority Leader Joseph Nyongesa and a number of MCAs.
