Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has now ordered the arrest and prosecution of politicians inciting violence in Kisii.

Speaking following meetings with Kisii and Nyamira county security chiefs, the Cabinet Secretary said they must all be arrested regardless of the position one holds, or their political affiliation.

Kindiki insisted that there is no connection between political competition and violence.

He went on to say that acts of politicians using violence as a means of political competition will not be entertained.

"There is no connection between political competition and violence. While political competition is lawful and constitutional, the use of violence as a means of conducting political competition is illegal and intolerable," Kindiki said.

He added that under President William Ruto's administration, the country's security apparatus will not be used for political activities.

He reiterated the need for security officers to remain neutral at all times while discharging their duties.

"It is the policy of this administration to depoliticise security management and law enforcement. Our security officers and administrators must remain impartial," he said.

During a meeting with the Kisii County Subcounty and Divisional security heads in Kisii Town on Friday, Kindiki said a special team has been deployed to investigate the recent violent crimes in the county.

He noted that personnel changes have also been made and are expected to bring to account, organisers, financiers, and perpetrators of violent criminal incidents in Kisii County.

Kindiki directed security agencies in Kisii county to prioritise preventive security and enforce the law firmly and without regard to the political affiliation or social rank of lawbreakers.

In Nyamira, the CS held a routine security performance review meeting with County, Subcounty and Divisional security heads from various agencies.

Kindiki said the government has taken measures to strengthen law enforcement to ensure every part of Kenya is safe and secure.

He added that security managers across the country have also been given performance targets to meet, and periodic reviews will be carried out to ensure continuous upgrading of service delivery.

"Our focus is on bringing down incidents of violence of whatever nature; homicide, family violence and substance abuse," he said.

In January, Kisii made headlines after supporters of Governor Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro clashed.

The chaos erupted in South Mugirango.

During the chaos, at least four people were injured and several vehicles were destroyed.

Nyamira residents have also decried the rise of armed gangs terrorising residents in the county and execution of robberies.
