Azimio leader Raila Odinga has thrown his weight behind Law Society of Kenya (LSK) vice president Faith Odhiambo, as she seeks lead to organisation.
Speaking after a meeting with her on Wednesday, Raila said her commitment to upholding the rule of law and calling for good governance is inspiring.
Raila said the current LSK vice president has his full support and he wishes her the best in the upcoming polls.
"An engaging conversation with Faith Odhiambo, LSK Vice President and aspiring LSK President. Her commitment to upholding the rule of law and advocating for good governance principles is truly inspiring. I wish her all the best and she has my full support," the former Prime minister said.
The LSK elections are set for Thursday (February 29, 2024).
There five candidates seeking to replace Eric Theuri whose term has lapsed, with each promising to protect the practice environment.
They include Faith Mony Odhiambo, Peter Wanyama Manyonge, Harriet Njoki Mboce, Carolyne Kamende Daudi and Bernhard Ng’etich Kipkoech.
Of the five, Kamende is the senior most having been admitted in 2005. Mboce is the youngest having been admitted in 2015.
Faith Odhiambo ended her campaigns on Monday night with an appeal to fellow legal professionals to elect her as the next president.
She underscored her commitment to upholding the rule of law emphasizing the challenges faced by the judiciary in the face of executive attacks.
She, however, vowed to stand firm for the rule of law and ensure the LSK remains a strong defender of legal principles.
“We have seen the executive launching attacks against the judiciary, we have seen a sense of the chief justice coming to sit down with the head of state in an attempt to pacify him and we have said at the LSK we will stand firm for the rule of law,” she said.
Having previously served as the society's representative for Nairobi County, Odhiambo highlighted her experience and institutional memory.
“As the vice president, we have built the society with a level of sobriety and stability and now we are focusing on how to propel it to the next level,” she said.
"I bring a vision and a clear path on where I want to see it go," she added.
