A man has been charged with murdering his mother, sister and a house help in Matathia village, Thika East, Kiambu county, two months ago.

Benson Njoroge Ngugi, 57, was charged together with his nephew Peter Ngugi Wanjiku, 28.

They denied the charges before Thika High Court judge Florence Muchemi.

They are accused of murdering Peninah Wairimu Ngugi (87), Pauline Njeri (50) and house help Joyce Wanjiru on December 6, 2023.

Their efforts to be released on bond were unsuccessful after the judge said she was waiting for probation and a DCI report.

She ruled that they be held in different remand prisons until March 13, when bond application will be determined.

The two are said to have strangled the mother to death and when the house help came to check what was happening, they clobbered her to death.

It is also alleged that the daughter, who had come to check on her mother, was clobbered to death upon entering the house and witnessing the horrific scenes.

The family had reportedly disposed of property in Ruiru town raising suspicions that the attackers might have been after money.

The case will be mentioned on March 13.
