Deputy Governor's impeachment motion is baseless - Kisii UDA MCAs

They said it saddens that the mover tabled domestic squabble as an impeachment motion.

A section of Kisii Ward Reps Wednesday rubbished the impeachment motion filed against Deputy Governor Robert Monda terming it dead on arrival.

The MCAs, the majority of them from the United Democratic Alliance, described as 'lacking substance'  the grounds being fronted as a reason to eject the Deputy County boss.

"When you hear of a motion drawing inspiration from domestic squabbles between brothers, it reads of lack of wisdom on the part of the mover," observed Masimba MCA Bouse Mairura.

The entire impeachment motion, Mairura said,  was 'dead on arrival'.

"What we have seen today is a deliberate mutilation of the law. Whoever was trying to intimidate the Deputy Governor did not have sufficient grounds because what we have heard in the house are matters that should be squared out in barazas by village elders and chiefs at home, not in the assembly," Mairura stated.

He spoke reacting to claims that Monda was embroiled in a land dispute with his brother which cropped up among grounds in the impeachment proceedings.

"You cannot tell us to impeach a deputy governor just because they had a quarrel with his wife or brother on matters having to do with boundaries, these are matters that should be solved within the family circle, "added Mairura.

Mairura said they are ready to defend the deputy governor to the bitter end.

"Let them bring it on, we are ready," he said.

On the bribery claim, he said the Deputy Governor does not work in Gwasco.

"Nowhere did he append his signature to show any financial transaction with the claimant," added Mairura.

Bokimonge MCA Amos Onderi, on his part, said the motion was grounded on 'generalizations that are hot air'.

He also said the motion filed Wednesday was a different one from what was filed last week.

"It perturbs that there are no specific grounds here pushing for the DGs removal but general rumours and bar gossip," he stated.

"You talk of a bribe having taken ten months ago. Where were they all the while?  Why resurface with these claims today? This is a political witch hunt," posed Onderi.

The Bokimonge MCA was exasperated that the speaker okayed public hearings about the motion as one way to 'prolong an illegality'.

" We want to tell them, the County is rotten. They are trying to compensate for their incompetencies. They don't want to deliver to the people of Kisii. Instead of the members holding them to account, they are resorting to such drama, "stated Onderi.

He said it was a shame that the County has only absorbed 1 per cent of the development budget since the new regime took over.

Ishmael who was ejected from the assembly said the motion did not have signatures as required in law.

He said the claims in the allegations were 'court matters that did not warrant the attention of the assembly'.

The motion has since been referred to a public hearing before being returned to the house.
