Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Mt Kenya leaders to shun divisive politics.

He was reacting to a recent incident in which some Kiambu leaders shouted at each other in the presence of President William Ruto.

“This behaviour of heckling in front of the king is not the behaviour of Mt Kenya people. That is ODM behaviour. As your leader, I do not want to see that again,” Gachagua said.

The DP urged Kiambu leaders to support National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah and Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

“When the governor stands to speak, listen to what he has to say, and when Kimani Ichung’wah speaks, listen. If you disagree with what was said, keep quiet,” Gachagua said.

The DP also urged Mt Kenya residents to support UDA, adding that certain leaders were attempting to undermine the ruling party.

He said UDA is still the most popular party in Mt Kenya.

Gachagua spoke during the launch of Rwabura irrigation project in Ituramiro, Gatundu South, where he had accompanied President Ruto.

"There are leaders out there trying to destroy our party. I recently heard an independent candidate lecturing us. Those in Jubilee and other parties should come and we will tell them about our party," he said.

President Ruto has been in Mt Kenya region for a three-day tour to launch development projects.

On Wednesday, Ruto commissioned the Nyambari-Mai Mahiu road, laid a foundation stone at Soko Mjinga market in Kiambu and commissioned the Kenya Medical Training College-Kangema campus.

He also pledged Sh100 million to support the expansion of Kangema Subcounty Hospital.

On Thursday, the President commissioned Ithanga water project in Murang’a being constructed in partnership with the Belgium Development Corporation for Sh3.6 billion.

He also launched Makenji Housing Project in Kandara, Maragua Bulk Water Project and Changachicha Water Project in Chinga, Othaya.
