Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has confirmed that the initial phase of the government's Sh7 billion security equipment will commence distribution next week.

The deployment is targeted at areas susceptible to terrorism and banditry, specifically focusing on enhancing safety measures in regions like North Eastern, Upper Eastern, and Upper Coastal areas.

"We must neutralize and dominate the enemy from all angles and ensure that our country is safe, and our people can work, live, and invest in peace and without any fear," Kindiki said on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering from El-Nur in Wajir, the CS emphasised the imperative need to fortify security measures in vulnerable areas.

He underscored the importance of providing security officers with crucial tools such as armoured personnel carriers and mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles.

The CS was speaking during the inauguration of the subcounty Headquarters and the appointment of Samuel Mokua as the first deputy county commissioner.

Various local leaders, including Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Senator Abass Sheikh, were also in attendance.

Going further, the Interior boss highlighted the commitment of the Kenya Kwanza administration to safeguard every corner of the country and combat various forms of criminal activities, including contraband trade, trafficking, and banditry.

He also revealed plans to operationalise subcounties in Wajir and other parts of the country within the current financial year to enhance accessibility to government services.

Simultaneously, CS Kindiki announced the recruitment and training of National Police Reservists starting next month to complement the efforts of multi-agency security personnel in countering terrorism financiers and orchestrators.

In a comprehensive effort to address evolving security threats, the government has unveiled a robust 5-year security equipment modernization plan, estimated at Sh37 billion.

Detailing the acquisition process, CS Kindiki disclosed an expenditure of approximately Sh7 billion over the past year for the procurement of security equipment to empower personnel in handling emerging threats effectively.

"The second consignment, featuring drones and other modern surveillance equipment, is scheduled to arrive in the country within the next two months, while the third consignment, including gunship helicopters and other aerial mobility equipment, is expected within a year," he said.
