Houses in Kadzandani, Nyali subcounty, in Mombasa are being converted into same-sex brothels, a politician has said.

Kadzandani MCA Fatma Kushe said on Thursday some entertainment joints have also been turned into gay and lesbian spots.

“Yesterday [Wednesday] was Valentine’s Day. And it was a sad one for me and all Kadzandani residents with morals to protect. The things we saw in these houses! Allah save us!” she said.

Speaking to the Star in her office, Kushe said small children see the behaviours displayed by homosexuals, who have been emboldened so much that they display their affection for each other in public spaces.

She said Bamburi is lined up with bars, restaurants and clubs that are slowly being turned into gay joints.

“That is why we are calling Nacada to raid these areas and smoke out these people who are perpetrating ills behind closed doors,” Kushe said.

She said her office has been inundated with complaints about the behaviours of homosexuals and are always high on shisha and other hard drugs.

“I have to act because my people are not living in peace anymore. How will they raise their children right if they see these people behaving badly in public spaces?” Kushe posed.

“Kaumulut [homosexuality] has been forbidden in Christian and Islamic religions. I will have to write a letter to the bar owners and restaurants that promote these behaviours and call a meeting with them.”

Kushe said Bamburi has now been nicknamed 'Sin City' because of the immorality that goes on in bars, restaurants and night clubs.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali said he will have to engage the Nacada CEO on the problem the entertainment joints in Bamburi are causing.

“These clubs first of all, do not follow the law. The law requires that they open at 5pm in the evening and close at 11pm. But here, it is like full board, they operate 24/7,” he said.

“There are a lot of bad things that happen here. People stay here, there is prostitution, there is everything here. Children going to school see these things. It is dangerous.”

The Nyali MP last Saturday said the problem has become so rampant that people are now selling muguka and hard drugs right outside public schools.

“We are not saying you should not do business, but there is no way we will allow you to sell muguka and alcohol right outside schools,” he said.

Ali said Nacada has started a crackdown on shisha dens in Nyali and he will ask them to extend it to Kadzandani and Bamburi.

On January 13, Nacada CEO Anthony Omerikwa led a raid on houses in Nyali that have been turned into shisha dens and brothels.

Forty people were arrested and taken to court.
