12 injured in Machakos road accident

Twelve people have sustained injuries after the vehicles they were travelling in got involved in an accident along Machakos - Kitui Road in Machakos County.

The injured were ten men and two women.

Mwala subcounty police commander Nancy Jerobon said the incident occurred at Makutano ma Mwala area within the subcounty on Sunday.

The accident happened after a mini-bus rammed into a mini-matatu at the said location at around 5.45am.

"It happened that one Andrew Kitaa was driving a Mitsubishi FH mini heading towards Machakos general direction from Kitui general direction and on reaching the point of accident, hit a motor vehicle that was in front of it moving in the same direction, a Toyota Hiace, driven by one Joshua Munyau on the rear right side," Jerobon told the Star by phone on Sunday.

She said the matter was reported to Masii police station as a slight injury road traffic accident on Sunday morning.

The police chief said both the vehicles were extensively damaged as a result of the impact.

She disclosed that the victims sustained head, leg, backache, neck, jaw, eye, lips and nose injuries.

They were rushed to Masii Level 3 Hospital while the driver of the minibus was taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital in fair condition for specialised treatment.

Jerobon said her officers had visited and processed the scene.

She said the wreckage was towed to Masii police station pending inspection.

Police have launched investigations into the accident.
