I won't allow selfish leaders to divide Mt Kenya – Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned leaders against dividing the Mt Kenya region along county lines .

Speaking in Kinyona on Saturday during a fundraiser at Bishop Gatimu Kinyona Girls, Gachagua said it's selfish for a section of leaders to talk about succession just a year after 2022 general election.

He noted that the people of Mt Kenya will decide who is suitable to lead the community after President William Ruto's terms end.

"I want to assure you that I will not allow any leader to divide the community along county lines, this will not be allowed," he said.

Gachagua noted that he is ready to work with youthful leaders and guide them on matters politics and urged them to respect the electorate.

He noted that Mt Kenya region will always vote as bloc and support those they deem responsible to lead them.

"When the right time comes, I will guide my people on the next course, I will not leave you in the wilderness," he said .

The DP said the community will greatly benefit from the Kenya Kwanza administration if they remain united.

"My wish is very possible, let's remain united and speak with one voice. I'm ready to work with everyone and I will support you,"he said.

Gachagua said succession politics is retrogressive and should be stopped.

The DP was reacting to recent the endorsement of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a suitable candidate to deputise Ruto in 2027.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu and his counterpart Joe Nyutu started the succession debate.

Ndindi Nyoro who was present during the event declared unconditional support for Gachagua and President William Ruto.

He noted that he is ready to support the government towards the realisation of its development agenda.

"I will support you and President William Ruto unconditionally,"Ndindi said .

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu echoed the remarks and declared readiness to work with Gachagua.

The DP was accompanied by a host of leaders including MPs George Gachagua (Nyandarua), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), Simon Kingara (Ruiru), Joseph Gitari (Kirinyaga )among others.
