Second luxury cruise docks at Port of Mombasa

A  luxury cruise liner from the Mediterranean Shipping Company docked at the Port of Mombasa on Saturday.

According to Keya Ports Aurhtority, MSC Poesia was carrying 2500 passengers from different nationalities and 1000 crew members of which 20 were Kenyans.

"With a length overall of 294 metres, MSC Poesia is one of the biggest cruise vessels to have docked at the Port," the authority said.

The authority noted that to be able to add value and support Cruise Tourism, KPA has invested in the requisite infrastructure including the state-of-the-art cruise terminal to cement Kenya’s status as a hub not only in cargo operations but also cruise tourism in Africa.

Last month, another luxury cruise liner Norwegian Dawn also docked at the Port of Mombasa from Seychelles. 

The ship docked early morning on Sunday and it's the first if its kind in the year 2024. 

The cruise ship carried 2,300 passengers, with 1,100 crew aboard. 

The Norwegian Dawn had an LOA of 294 metres.

KPA Director General Captain William Ruto was among other officials were present to receive the tourists. 

They gifted the tourists with a caps.
