We need to treat femicide as terrorism – youth advocate

Youth Advocate Mercy Mutana has said Kenyans need to treat femicide as terrorism.

Speaking on Friday she said that femicide is a form of Sexual and Gender Based Violence case and victims should not be blamed.

“From the African data hub from 2016 to 2023, 500 infamous cases of femicide revealed a kind of pattern. Femicide is also a form of sexual and gender-based- violence,” she said on Citizen TV.

“From the data, 60 per cent of these victims were young women and 80% of these victims were killed by close and known persons to them.”

Mutana said that Kenyans get it wrong through the normalization of SGBV from different perspectives as women’s rights are diverse.

She added that it’s wrong to blame victims.

Kenyans have been concerned over the recent cases.
