Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja now claims that there are plans to grab a section of land at War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru by powerful individuals.

She said that the dispute around the busy facility is around the prime land and not health services as the county wants residents to believe.

Two days after calling for the impeachment of Governor Susan Kihika for violation of the law, Karanja vowed to continue with her fight to protect the hospital.

She urged Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome to intervene and have the order issued by the High Court implemented for services to resume.

Karanja said failure by the county government to abide by court orders has set a bad precedent in a country governed by the rule of law.

The senator termed the ongoing drama as a shame saying it will keep off investors.

She said two previous county governments had partnered with the management of the private hospital without any problem.

“The wrangles around the institution is the 25 acres that is being eyed by powerful individuals in Nakuru and we shall not be cowed,” Karanja said.

She questioned the loud silence by the Ministries of Health and Lands as patients and the management of the facility continue to suffer.

Karanja said that she will raise the issue in the Senate so that the Cabinet Secretaries concerned are summoned to answer questions over the ongoing disputes.

“War memorial is one of the biggest hospitals in the country with dialysis machines yet the Ministry of Health has remained silent as patients continue to die,” she said.

Karanja said she has in her possession copies of the hospital's land lease which was legally renewed for another 50 years by the Ministry of Land.

“We are asking the Ministry of Land to issue a statement over the land lease which the county claims to be fake as we have documents proving otherwise,” she said in Naivasha.

The senator said she did not have any interest in the governor’s seat and was playing her oversight role.

Karanja challenged the MCAs to also play their role and fight for the rights of the residents.

“The previous county government constructed multi-million health facilities in Naivasha, Mai Mahiu, Gilgil and Molo but they remain empty,” she said.
