As Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka serves his final term, politicians have started regrouping in a bid to succeed him.

Those who have shown interest in replacing the Governor include Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa (UDA) and former governor Wycliffe Wangamati who ditched the DAP-K party for Ruto’s UDA.

Over the weekend, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya which is led by former Defense Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa unveiled auctioneer Zacharia Barasa as their preferred candidate to face off other candidates.

Wamalwa hailed businessman as the party’s preferred candidate and most popular candidate to run on DAP-K asking his party delegates to recruit more people as a strategy of strengthening the party.

“Currently what we are doing is to recruit new members into DAP-K, it is the new and fast-growing party in Kenya, “he said.

He says that DAP-K is still an Azimio affiliate party and it is at the forefront of fighting for the welfare of Kenyans.

At the same time, Wamalwa received defectors from other parties.

On his part, Zacharia Barasa lauded former CS for accepting to back him capture the Bungoma gubernatorial seat affirming that he is equal to the task.

“Fighting for the people’s interest is not new to me because it is what I have been doing for my entire life in politics. I know this time around Bungoma people will remember me,” Barasa stated.

Barasa said that from next week, he will embark on recruiting more members into DAP-K.

“I’m going to lead the DAP-K recruitment exercise to ensure that I hit 150,000 new members,” Barasa added.

Also present was DAP-K Secretary General Dr. Eseli Simiyu.
