Ruto appoints veteran journalist Tom Mshindi KBC board chair

The President further revoked the appointment of Benjamin Maingi.

President William Ruto has appointed veteran Journalist Tom Mshindi to be the board chairperson of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.

In a gazette notice dated January 19, the President said Mshindi will work for three years.

Mshindi will begin his role effective January 19, 2024.

The President further revoked the appointment of Benjamin Maingi.

"In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act and section 4 (1) (a) of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Tom Mshindi Nyamancha to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Board, for three years, with effect from January 19, 2024," the notice read.

With nine years of presence at NMG, Mshindi rose through the ranks starting as a journalist, and later as the Managing Editor of the Daily Nation.

He also held the position of Managing Director of Monitor Publications, an NMG subsidiary in Uganda, Managing Director of Nation Newspapers Division and Chief Operating Officer.

Mshindi is currently a consulting editor and writer for Tom Mshindi Consulting.
