Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has dismissed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s presidential ambition.

He said Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party does not have the muscle to produce a president.

“Truth be told, a party with six MPs cannot produce the president. Stop telling us that Ford Kenya can make Wetang’ula president. It is a big lie,” Oparanya said.

He spoke on Wednesday in Bungoma during an ODM membership recruitment drive.

The ODM deputy party leader said for the Luhya nation to produce the head of state, they must be united.

Wetang’ula at the weekend in Bungoma urged Western Kenya residents to apply for ID cards so they can support his presidential bid when the time is right.

“The presidency is rotational. We shall not allow the presidency to skip us. From Rift Valley, it should cross over to Western,” he said.

The Ford Kenya leader said he has been in leadership position for a long time and he is equal to the task of leading the country.
