The Orange Democratic Movement has issued a list of demands following the chaos which erupted in Kisii early this week.

Addressing the media on Friday, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna said the party was concerned over the safety of Governor Arati, stating that his life was in danger

"The ODM party wishes to express serious concern about the life and safety of Kisii Governor Simba Arati following repeated violent attacks in broad daylight," he said.

The Nairobi Senator also highlighted that the Raila Odinga-led party was questioning the silence of the Interior Cabinet Secretary over the issue.

"We take note of the loud silence of the CS in charge of national security and the inspector general of police. It is this silence, coupled with the fact that no action has been taken," he added

Sifuna claimed that the matter was reported but no action has been taken.

On Monday this week, chaos erupted in South Mugirango where Governor Arati was set to address a rally.

South Mugirango is the constituency led by the National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro.

During the chaos, at least four people were injured and several vehicles destroyed.

Gunshots rented the air forcing attendees of Arati's rally to run for their dear lives.

It was not immediately known who fired the bullets.

Later, the two traded barbs as they accused each other of orchestrating the violence.

“As a law-abiding governor what I have done was to file a report and leave it to the officers to probe it," Arati told a group of boda boda riders and supporters outside Kisii Central police station in Kisii.

Arati said he had filed the report of the attack on his rally and urged his supporters to remain calm.

Osoro, however, rubbished accusations that he had orchestrated the raid.

Instead, he accused the governor’s security detail of earlier "commandeering his car mounted with speakers occasioning the skirmishes".

The MP was presiding over an education function at the constituency development fund offices when he was informed about the incident.

“I was not near then. I was about to head out to launch road construction work at Nyakembene when I heard that one of my cars had been commandeered off,” Osoro said.

The fracas, he added, was the aftermath of the agitation to have the car released back to them.

"It was after they had failed that I went to secure the release of my car," he stated.

"I think it was at that point that skirmishes erupted," he told journalists.

As a result, the ODM party wants the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to immediately transfer the Kisii police county commander.

Sifuna stated that the party wants action to be taken against the officers allegedly identified in the attack.

"They should be interdicted as they await their date with Justice," he said.

The ODM party wants Osoro to also record a statement about the incident.

Sifuna also announced that ODM wants the Independent Police Oversight Authority to immediately commence investigations.

The Raila-led party noted that the demands must happen within the next 14 days, failure to which ODM will pursue other avenues to ensure law and order in Kisii.
