The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) hopeful Faith Odhiambo has vowed to protect the rule of law and ensure the stability of the bar if elected next president.

Speaking Tuesday when she returned her nomination papers, Odhiambo underscored the society's role as a key player in the legal sector.

"LSK stands as an important player in the industry. We work with parliament, we work with the judiciary and also advise the executive," she said.

She said if elected, she will play her role effectively which includes raising their voices on the excesses of the government.

Odhiambo who was accompanied by a battery of lawyers also voiced her concern over an alleged attempt to muscle the judiciary saying they are totally against it.

This, as she vowed to deal with rampant cases of corruption in the arm.

"We will not allow the judiciary to go back to the old era. We are lawyers and if we serve the public, we are not going to allow any corrupt judicial officers out to enrich themselves," she remarked.

According to the lawyer, all corrupt judicial officers must serve with integrity and anyone who goes against the grain must be flagged out and cease serving.

Odhiambo at the same time promised to ensure the society remains a strong voice for its members and the public as she committed to address the challenges of employment for lawyers.

Currently, she pointed out, that over 2,000 lawyers have been admitted to the bar in the last two years.

"We have challenges in ensuring young lawyers get work opportunities and that is something that we are working on. During my tenure as the VP, we started a mentorship program to ensure they get briefs and I promise to enhance it," she stated.

Senior counsel Wilfred Nderitu who is among those who endorsed her nominators expressed confidence in her as up to the task.

"I have worked with her on many matters that include management of LSK and I have faith in her," he said.
