Police officer killed in accident in Kakamega

A senior police officer was Saturday evening killed in a road accident along Kakamega-Kisumu highway.

The incident involved a collision between two vehicles at Isikhu river, resulting in the untimely death of Inspector Alexandra Leshan from Khayega police station.

The officers, traveling in a private car towards Kisumu at approximately 5 pm, collided head-on with another vehicle.

Unfortunately, Inspector Leshan lost his life on the spot, while his fellow colleagues accompanying him sustained serious injuries, according to the police.

Witnesses and police said Leshan lost control of his salon car and collided with another government car belonging to the Ministry of East Africa Community that was moving in the opposite direction.

Due to the impact, the driver of the government Prado car sustained slight injuries on his right hand and complained of chest pain.

One of the officers had fractures on his right leg while the other had his hand fractured.

A female passenger on board also had head injuries, police said.

The victims were rushed to Kakamega County General hospital where Leshan was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident raised the victims of separate accidents to ten.

Four others had died in Turkana, three in Kitale and two in Bomet.

It has increased the number of those killed this year so far past 4,000.
