Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he is yet to know why DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa dismissed bipartisan talks team report.
Speaking in an interview with TV 47 on Sunday, Kalonzo said he was yet to understand why Eugene refused to sign the report, even though Azimio had stated that they were not in agreement with Kenya Kwanza.
"Kwa hivo nadhani Eugene alikuwa na sababu zake. Bado atakuja anieleze sababu zake hizo kwa sababu zikuelewa," he said.
This is loosely translated to, "So I think Eugene had his reasons. He will still explain to me because I did not understand them."
Kalonzo, who led the Azimio team during the bipartisan talks, said they had agreed to oppose some issues but not the report in its totality.
Wamalwa, who was part of the team however dismissed the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report saying it did not do justice to the issue of high cost of living.
He said this is the most important issue to Kenyans and vowed not to accept any sitting allowance associated with it.
Commenting on the issue of the cost of living, Kalonzo said they tried resolving but the ruling party would hear none of it.
"Tulijaribu kuliangazia swala hilo tukaona wenzetu hawaelewi. Wakasema 'sisi ndio wenye mamlaka' (We tried to deliberate on the issue but our counterparts were not getting it. They said 'we are in power')," he said.
In the report co-signed by Kalonzo and National Assembly Majority Leader, recommendations were made on the various issues that were raised by both sides of the political divide.
NADCO, however, admitted to failing to agree on the matter of cost of living while unveiling the final report of its deliberations.
In the report, both camps made proposals on key issues that were part and parcel of the talks in which they disclosed failure to hit a deal on Azimio's major concerns on taxes, the finance act, and the Housing Levy.
"The committee was unable to reach a consensus on several other proposals on the matter of cost of living, including the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16 per cent to 8 per cent and scrapping of the housing levy, the twin issues in the Finance Act, 2023," the report stated.
