It’s all systems go as teams for the 11th East African Safari Classic Rally (EASCR) make the final touches ahead of Saturday’s Prologue (Spectator Stage).
The Prologue Stage will offer coast residents and visiting fans the first-hand Classic rally cars' experience before the rally proper starts on Sunday.
Meanwhile, excitement is palpable on the coast following the completion of the three-day Scrutineering -cum-Tracking System Fitting at Vipingo Ridge.
Over the past week, Vipingo has presented foreign and local crews a busy time with a real buzz as rally excitement builds.
According to the clerk of the course, Renzo Bernardi, Saturday’s Prologue stage will be run to define the official start order and indeed create the group seeding for the duration of the event.
“This TC start will be run in order of door numbers issued at three-minute intervals after the ceremonial start. Provision for service setup has been arranged at Vipingo Ridge immediately after completion of the Prologue. Crews are allowed to leave their respective vehicles here (Vipingo) overnight. There will be an area created for rally cars to be parked before the main start.”
“Leg 1 start order for the Top 10 will see the fastest on Prologue Stage will choose their respective start positions and the sequence will follow till the first 10 cars have been positioned. Thereafter, the rest will be slotted as per their accumulative stage time recorded,” Renzo said in a Bulletin. Vipingo Ridge will host the start of the event on Saturday.
A total of 63 cars will be competing in the 10-day extravaganza, which also has its Prologue Stage centered on Vipingo Ridge on the same day. Vipingo Ridge has also welcomed several leading race teams including Tuthill Porsche who have used the venue as their base for the rally preparations.
