Members of Parliament from the Gusii region on Tuesday clashed over the arrest of Controller of Budget, Margaret Nyakang'o.

The leaders who held a press conference at Parliament buildings claimed the arrest was part of a wider plot to remove her from office and blamed President William Ruto for Nyakang'o's predicaments.

The legislators included Nyamira Senator Okongó Omogeni, West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Senator Gloria Orwoba and Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi and Woman representatives from the Gusii region.

During the press briefing, while all other legislators seemed to lay blame on Ruto and his administration, Orwoba sang a different song.

He strongly defended Ruto, insisting that the president had no hand in the frustrations Nyakang'o was facing.

She instead blamed it all on some shadowy individuals who were out to create a wedge between the President and the Gusii people.

Orwoba said that President Ruto meant well for the community.

"Whatever is happening is not doing of the president. Anytime anything is being cooked by those who think they have power around the president is done when he is out of the country," Orwoba said.

Her remarks did not sit well with Kibagendi who strongly disagreed with her to the extent of disrupting her address.

"You cannot defend the president on this," Kibagendi said.

While they engaged in a heated exchange, the Kitutu Chache South MP walked out and was followed by a host of other leaders.

The country’s budget boss was surprisingly arrested and arraigned for an offence she allegedly committed in 2016.

She was not the CoB at the time.

Addressing journalists in Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, the lawmakers claimed that the President sanctioned the arrest and prosecution to kick start her removal from the powerful office.
