Police in Bomet County have arrested a 16-year-old girl who Thursday took her dead child to the Ndaraweta Health Centre.
Police said the girl was arrested in the evening on Thursday after she had, allegedly, in the morning of the same day, taken the child to the health centre for treatment.
The officers from the Silibwet police station, in a report dispatched on Thursday night, said the girls had appeared at the health centre at 10 am and reported that her child was unwell.
A clinical officer at the facility advised her to take the baby to the centre’s laboratory for a check-up, but the girl disappeared without a trace.
The police in their report said the girl reappeared at the centre at 4 pm with the dead child.
The report said when the girl returned the child to the health centre, doctors attempted to resuscitate the one-year and three-month-old baby, but she was already dead.
The girl was arrested as the dead baby was taken to Longisa subcounty hospital mortuary.
