Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe now says that he has retired from actively participating in the day-to-day politics of the country.

According to Murathe, after their Azimio side lost the August 2022 general elections, he took a step back from active day-to-day activities.

"I'm officially retired from engaging with the day to day, up and down, the politics and all that," he said on Spice FM.

Murathe noted that he is also yet to understand how Kenya Kwanza won the presidential election because it was not possible for them to do it.

He added that to date, he has never accepted that they could do it as all odds were against them.

He, however, noted that once they were announced winners, they decided to let go and focus on other things.

"We went into an election, I have never internalised it myself. I have never accepted that it was possible. Because it was not possible mathematically and logically for the other side to win. So when that happened, however, it happened... we decided its vanity and it's not worth it," Murathe said.

Despite saying he is retired, Murathe still identifies as the former ruling party's vice chairman.

Murathe is one of the few leaders from the former ruling party who have remained loyal to Uhuru and Opposition leader Raila Odinga after they lost the 2022 presidential election.

This is despite there being two sides fighting for the soul of Jubilee.

One is allied to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and is led by Murathe and Jeremiah Kioni as secretary general.

The other is allied to President William Ruto and is led by nominated MP Sabina Chege as party leader and East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega as secretary general.

Each of the two sides claims ownership of the party with multiple cases filed in court over the leadership of Jubilee.
