In Summary

  • We don’t even have a proper IEBC. It (referendum) is completely uncalled for and the timing is poor.
  • Cost of living is not something that you really need Bomas talks to discuss.
Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot.

All this charade of NADCO Bomas talks is based on political conmanship by both sides.

There was no basis upon which you go back and say let us audit the 2022 election results because under the IEBC Act that is already a duty required of the electoral management body.

It was a complete waste of time and money; it was just personality politics.

This whole thing was just premised on very poor leadership of the government of the day and it is escapist from the pressing needs of the people of Kenya.

The cost of living is not something that you really need Bomas talks to discuss. We have the government of the day; it's a policy issue.

When Parliament passed the Finance Act 2023, they cannot tell us they did not realise that raising VAT from eight to 16 per cent would not affect the cost of living. It is bad policy.

These are things that can be corrected on the floor of the House by amending the Act and by the government just being truthful to the people of Kenya.

The rest of the things they are pushing, like establishing the Leader of Opposition, are completely unnecessary because when we wrote the Constitution we established the leadership inside Parliament. You do not need to create another office of Leader of Opposition because it is an indictment of Parliament as not working.

Look at the other office they want to constitutionalise, the Prime Cabinet Secretary. This is just to sanitise wrong political decisions that they made by creating offices not recognised by the Constitution

The most important thing is, where are the priorities in this country? The priority now is not taking the country to a referendum.  After all, we are saying we are broke as a country, referendums are very costly.

We don’t even have a proper IEBC. It (referendum) is completely uncalled for and the timing is poor.

If you were to amend this Constitution for the common good of the people, like to reduce size of government or reduce size of Parliament, then we can say there is common good.
