Sorrow and grief engulfed Ngarariga village in Limuru constituency on Wednesday during the burial of a St John Ambulance first aider killed by thugs.
Hannah Njeri, 50, was attacked at her home last week by thugs armed with crude weapons.
The thugs, who opened her door with a master key, hit her on the head with a blunt object and left her bleeding on the floor.
They made away with a tv set, money and a mobile phone.
Lillian Nyambura, her neighbour, said they found her on the floor when they went to check on her after the commotion.
“We quickly called a taxi and while we were on the way to the hospital, she passed away. We reported the matter to the police and took her body to the mortuary,” she said.
Subcounty police commander Phillip Mwania said no one had been arrested in connection with the murder.
He urged anyone with information to share with the police.
“We are following some leads that will help us. As now, no one has been arrested” Mwania said.
Kiambu senator Karungo Thang’wa described Njeri as a humble, soft speaking and respectful person.
“She was jovial and was a friend to many following her interaction with the community she served," he said.
Thang’wa said the community had lost an important person, urging the police to expedite investigations and bring the murderers to book.
Before St John Ambulance, Njeri worked as a palliative care giver with Diani Hospice and as a service mobiliser with Family Health Network -Tunza Programme.
Stephen Mwangi, a resident, who spoke at the funeral urged the police to beef up security during the festive season.
Mwangi said roadside attacks are rampant in Kamandura, Kwambira, Karanjee, Ngarariga and Mutarakwa regions.
“People go back home early over fear of being attacked by thugs," he said.
Thang'wa said the thugs behind the attacks were young and careless.
“The youthful thugs do not care what or who they are attack and steal from. They are not concerned about the impact they will leave,” he said.
Thang'wa urged Inspector General of police Japheth Koome to assign more patrol vehicles to Limuru.
