Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba now wants Tourism and Wildlife CS Alfred Mutua to intervene after a hyena killed a 10-year-old boy in Witeithie, Juja, in Kiambu county.
In a statement on Thursday, Wamuchomba said they cannot continue to die of hunger and attacks from wild animals.
She noted that the 10-year-old boy was the fourth person to be killed by a Hyena around the Juja farm.
"Dear CS Alfred Mutua, we mourn this 9-year-old boy Kamande from Juja who happens to be our son. He’s the fourth victim of the Marauding Hyenas of Juja farm! Waziri, we can’t die of hunger and get killed by Hyenas," Wamuchomba said on X.
The boy was killed on Saturday evening.
The remains of the boy were recovered Sunday morning. His blood-stained clothes were found in a nearby bush by quarry workers.
He was with three friends when they saw the clan of hyenas charging at them on Saturday evening, the victim’s father said.
The other three boys told police they managed to escape after they saw the hyenas.
Residents said the pupil at the village school had been reported missing as his mother, a doctor, was at work.
Residents live in fear and rarely move out of their houses in the evenings, late at night and early morning for fear of the marauding animals.
They also keep their children out of school for fear of the hyenas.
Kenya Wildlife Service personnel visited the scene and promised to hunt down the hyenas and drive them back to the wild.
The pack is believed to have strayed from the nearby Ol-Donyo Sabuk Game Reserve where they usually roam.
