The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has given updates on investigations following the death of a Kabarak University student.

Joshua Limo Arekou died on Saturday, November 18, 2023, following a road crash on the Nakuru-Ravine Road.

In a statement on Tuesday, IPOA chairperson Ann Makori said preliminary investigations revealed that the road accident involved a police vehicle.

The Rapid Response team of investigators from Nakuru has identified witnesses, she added.

"Having visited the scene of the incident, the team identified witnesses whose accounts we deem to be critical in ensuring that at the end of investigations, justice is served" she said.

Makori said the authority will attend a postmortem examination scheduled for Tuesday, November 21.

"We have contacted the bereaved family and again, extend condolences to the university fraternity, his friends and all other aggrieved persons," she added.

Makori said these are the initial steps of the many investigatory processes at the disposal of the Authority concerning the case.

She pleaded with the aggrieved persons to remain calm and called on any anyone with information on the investigation, to call the toll-free line, 1559.

"IPOA commits to fair, impartial and independent investigations," she said.
