A silent war has erupted between a governor from the Rift Valley and his deputy. Trouble started when MCAs kicked off a plot to remove a county executive committee member over abuse of office allegations. However, the county boss believes his deputy has a hand in it. The deputy is said to enjoy the backing of MCAs who have lately been accusing the governor of high handedness. A staffer said the deputy governor is never invited to meetings chaired by the governor and has had staff working in his office halved.

An investigative agency has warned a county at the Coast against making any payments to a construction company over suspected underhand dealings. The county boss has been told he will bear personal responsibility if he allows payments to be made to the firm before investigations into claims of procurement irregularities are completed. An insider said the company was set to receive Sh100 million. The agency is investigating claims that the company used forged documents from another firm to support its bid.

One of the PSs is reportedly becoming an impediment to service delivery. The PS is allegedly micromanaging the affairs of a crucial agency, a move that has sparked anger among the technical officials. The technical officers are now demoralised and are not performing their duties effectively for fear of victimisation. Recently, the PS went to the media to comment on a controversial topic without consulting the line ministry or respective agency. The demoralised officials are now appealing to the Head of State to read the riot act to the PS.
