Two people have drowned in two separate incidents following heavy rains in Nairobi.

One of the bodies was found in Tasia area after it had been swept downstream on Thursday, police said.

According to police, the first incident happened in Mathare where a five-year-old boy slipped into a flooded Mathare river and drowned.

Police said the boy was playing with other children at the banks of the river when he slipped and fell into the water drowning.

Residents dived into the water in an effort to save or retrieve the body in vain.

Police said the body had not been recovered by Friday and they are working with residents to get it.

In Tasia, police and residents said they recovered a body that had been swept to the area.

The body was floating on the Ngong River that runs through the larger Mukuru slums.

Police officers proceeded to the scene and found a partially decomposed body of the man aged about 50.

It was established that the body was brought to the scene by the swollen river and scene was processed and the body was taken to the City Mortuary pending identification and postmortem.

Elsewhere, a 25-year-old woman was electrocuted in an incident in Huruma, Nairobi.

Faith Muthoni was electrocuted as she did laundry work at her house in the area.

She was rushed to Jumuia hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers from Kenya Power and Lighting said they established that the electrocution originated from an adjacent building which had an electric wiring fault.

Police and the KPLC are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old mason died after falling from the ninth floor of a house under construction along Argwings Kodhek Road.

John Opiyo Owino was at the site with other masons when he slipped off and fell to the ground.

Witnesses said he fractured his right leg and hand and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Cases of workers falling from highrise buildings and dying have been on the rise amid calls to address the menace.

Several agencies are investigating the cases.
