The High Court has stopped the elections of different organizational councils of the Africa Inland Church-Kenya (AIC-K) slated for November 12 following a case filed by its members.

The members led by Reverend Stephen Melly told Justice Lawrence Mugambi that the intended elections are flawed as the presiding bishops have not listed all the offices that are supposed to be declared vacant.

They have listed their presiding Bishop Reverend Abraham Mulwa as the respondent in the case.

Also sued are his deputy presiding Bishop Paul Kirui and Samuel Gichuhi the National Treasurer and Reverend John Kitala.

Melly and five others told the court that the respondents want the elections to proceed even though they have omitted to subject the office of the bishops to elections.

Melly is a member of the Africa Inland Church Kenya at Kesogon Local Church.

He is also the Chairman of the Chebisaas District Church Council (DCC) in the Chebisaas Regional Church Council (RCC) of Nandi Area Church Council.

Justice Mugambi in issuing the temporary order restrained the respondents and their agents from carrying out the Inland Church of Kenya elections on November 12 in all its organizational structures namely the Local church council, district church council, regional church council, area church council and central church council.

The order was issued pending the hearing of the application inter-parties.

He directed the application together with the petition be served upon the respondents within the next three days.

Responses to the application and the petition are to be filed within 7 days from the date of service upon the respondents.

According to the court documents, the members claim they are facing a threat of denying them the right to vote for a candidate of their choice.

The elections which have been stopped were to commence on November 12 with the local church council and finally on January 11 next year with the elections of the Central Church Council.

Justice Mugambi said the matter is to be mentioned on November 29 to confirm compliance for further directions.
