Kindiki assesses Baringo's security situation as exams continue

Interior and National Administration CS Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday conducted a security situation assessment in Baringo county, as national exams entered the second day.

The CS sought to asses security measures established to secure pupils and students sitting for this year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment.

During the assessment, Kindiki held a meeting with Rift Valley Regional security chiefs and Baringo county top security officials.

The meeting held at Loruk in Baringo also included Intelligence Committees from the region.

This comes against the backdrop of recent incidents of livestock rustling and attacks on innocent citizens by armed criminals in Baringo.

Kindiki instructed the Rift Valley Regional Security team led by Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan to pursue, apprehend, and prosecute all criminals behind the recent attacks.

The CS has also asked the security teams to decisively deal with armed criminals who attack security officers on duty.

The government had deployed at least 60,000 security personnel across the country to secure the national examination centres and ensure the credibility of the exams.

Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said that the government had set up Command and Communication centres at both the National and all Regional levels for close monitoring and supervision of the exercise to ensure a seamless exercise.

“The Ministry of Interior will play a leading and critical role in the execution of the task, supporting the Ministry of Education in coordination, logistics and provision of 24-hour security during the examination exercise,” Omollo said.

The mobilized security agents include National Police Service officers and National Government Administration Officials.

Over 3.5 million candidates will sit for this year's exams which will run from October 30 to November 24.

Of these, 1.4 million are KCPE candidates, with 1.2 million KPSEA candidates while 903,260 will sit for the KCSE exams.
