World population from 1960 to 2022 in billions

The world’s population has grown from 3.03 billion in 1960 to 8 billion in 2022.

The world’s fertility rate in 2022 was 2.4 births per woman, a 0.41 per cent decline from 2021.

Niger tops the list at 6.8 children per woman, followed by Somalia (6.0), the Democratic Republic of Congo (5.8), Mali (5.8), and Chad (5.6).

South Korea has the lowest TFR in the World at 0.78 children per woman (UN, 2022).

The world’s population has grown from 3.03 billion in 1960 to 8 billion in 2022.

It is projected to reach 9.7 billion in 2050, hit 10 billion in 2058 and peak in 2086 at 10.43 billion and then begin to decline.

However, this trend is not universal among regions, sub-regions and countries.

Most of this population growth will occur in Africa, Central & Southern Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
