A policewoman was found dead in her house moments after she had complained of stomach pain in Kinoo, Kiambu County.

This is the fifth death in less than a week in the service.

Constable Leah Wangui Kahuho’s body was found in her house on Sunday morning moments after she had asked for porridge, water and fruits from her male colleague and immediate neighbour.

She worked at the Baraniki police post.

She told the colleague she was not feeling well and left for her house to sleep.

According to police, she was supposed to be on duty and her colleague who was to be relieved was concerned and went to check on her.

He found Wangu’s lifeless body lying on the bed with a banana and orange on her hands.

Her colleagues said she was recuperating after hospital admission.

Police took the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.

This is the latest death to be reported in the service in a week where up to five officers have died.

Two died by suicide in Nairobi and one was shot and killed by a wanted suspect in the Kasarani area.

Another one was found murdered in Nandi.

The incident is linked to trauma-related by police officers which are on the rise.

Many say some deaths are linked to their stress.

Dozens of police officers have died as a result of suicide or killed many in a trend that is attributed to stress at work.

As part of efforts to address the trend, police authorities have launched counselling services and the National Police Service Commission has established a unit and staffed it to attend to their demanding situation.

The counselling unit will, among other things, evaluate, design and lead an outreach programme that helps prevent mental health and substance abuse.
