Matatu service operator Super Metro has announced that it will begin operations from the Central Business District to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a statement, Super Metro said the launch of the route will coincide with the introduction of new fleets of vehicles with free rides on its inaugural trip.

The Matatu operator said the fleet will include a new addition of electric busses.

"Soon we'll be launching new electric busses and more of the 7th Generation NQR series which will be operating from the CBD straight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)," Super Metro said on Facebook.

The introduction of new electric buses comes a few months after the company received its first electric bus from Basi Go, a Kenyan electric mobility start-up.

"The number of Electric Buses in Kenya keeps growing. Today, we handed Super Metro its first electric bus," the start-up said.
