Mwaura vows to deliver as he takes over spokesperson's office

Newly named government spokesperson Issac Mwaura has formally assumed his role, a day after his appointment.

Mwaura appeared Thursday during a press conference called by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu at his Johoo House office.

"I am delighted to be here today before you," he said in his brief remarks after the event.

He said he was happy to have been considered to serve in the position.

He termed the appointment as a privilege especially being the first person with a disability of albinism.

"I am extremely grateful to God for the opportunity to be the fifth spokesman under the fifth president...I thank President William Ruto and his deputy for having found it fit to have me as the official government spokesman," he said.

As the bearer of the office, Mwaura promised to work closely with state departments and agencies to ensure Kenyans have access to information.

"The government will be open to information, we'll be open for engagement," he said adding he will be holding weekly press briefings.

The appointment of the former lawmaker is contained in a communication dated October 4, by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
