A woman has been arrested after she was found in possession of narcotics in Athi River, Machakos County.
The 45-year-old woman was nabbed after police raided her premises at Kisumu Ndogo slum in Athi River Sub County on Saturday.
Athi River South Sub County police commander Jos Mudavadi said the suspect was found in possession of Sh250,000 worth of bhang, street value during the 1. 23pm swoop.
Part of the consignment was being processed while the rest had been processed and was already in the market when it was confiscated by the cops.
The arrest was effected as security agencies in the region intensified security operations to crack down on criminals as well as rid the area of illicit drugs and liquor alongside other forms of outlawed trade and substances.
Money suspected to be proceeds of the narcotics sale was also recovered from the suspect.
The matter was reported to the Athi River police station as a raid/ seizure of narcotic drugs.
“A special operation aimed at establishing, identifying and arresting narcotic drugs dealers within Athi River Township and its environs was carried by the OCS Athi River and his team. During the operation, the police managed to seize a quantity of narcotic drugs with a total weight of 50Kgs,” Mudavadi told the Star on Saturday.
“During the operation, police arrested one suspect namely Petronilla Philip aged 45 years,” Mudavadi said.
He said the suspect had been locked up at Athi River police station pending to be arraigned at Mavoko Law Courts on Monday.
Mudavadi said those involved in all forms of illicit trade should close shop and instead shift to lawful businesses before the long arm of the law catches up with them.
He said police were committed to ensuring that sanity, law and order were enforced not only in Athi River Sub County but also in its environs.
The police chief urged the public to cooperate with security agencies by volunteering intelligence information to relevant authorities so as to help in the war against crime.
