Kericho police county commander Geoffrey Mayeik has warned local chiefs against arbitrating defilement and early marriage cases.

The police boss attributes local culture as the cause behind the vices against the rule of law.

Several defilement and early marriage cases, the police boss said should be allowed to take full force of the law without interference of chiefs.

Mayeik said the future of the girl child remains threatened if chiefs continued holding Kangaroo court to bail out defilers and those marrying school-going children.

He spoke at Jesus Center Ministry in Kericho town last Friday where at least 240 chiefs were in attendance.

County commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo organised the meeting that brought on board all chiefs from the six sub-counties.

Mayeik said 99 per cent of local chiefs are from the Kipsigis community who have in one way or another decided to arbitrate on matters that were supposed to be dealt with by local courts
