Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has cautioned politicians against holding meetings that turn violent.

Speaking in Meru on Friday, Kindiki said the government will not allow meetings that end in violent encounters after a meeting in Meru last Sunday turned chaotic.

"Ukitaka kufanya mkutano fanya mkutano unaosema sera yako. Sema ile mambo unafanyia wananchi lakini mkutano wa kuchochea watu hiyo tumepiga marufuku haitafanyika," he said.

Last Sunday, angry residents at Makiri in Igembe South constituency protested and set mattresses on fire that Governor Kawira Mwangaza had gone to donate to the public.

They also slaughtered a cow that she was to present to a needy family.

Businesses were disrupted in the town as supporters of the county boss engaged in stone-throwing contests with a rival group.

Police said an unknown number of people were injured during the chaos.

So far, 10 people have been arrested over the chaos.

Governor Mwangaza said they experienced violence and part of their donations were destroyed.

"We want to express our deep disappointment and condemnation of such retrogressive behaviour. It is unacceptable to disrupt a charitable effort aimed at helping people in need," she said.

"We strongly believe that the perpetrators of these heinous acts need to face the full force of the law. We call upon relevant agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and take the necessary measures against those responsible. We must ensure this never happens again in our society," Mwangaza added.
