Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has pledged to take prompt action in having a dispensary in Lambwe East operate optimally after a resident claimed the facility remains closed on Fridays.
The issue was brought to her attention on social media platform X by the resident who posted a video and tagged the governor on Friday.
"Our beloved governor Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga this is Ndhuru Dispensary in Lambwe East. I had the worst Friday ever after visiting this facility only to find the doors closed and other patients desperate. Here, unfortunately, Fridays are holidays. Kindly intervene."
The government acknowledged receipt of the complaint and said urgent action would be taken to rectify the situation.
"Thanks for notifying me. Prompt action will be taken," Wanga said.
According to the Kenya Primary Healthcare Strategic Framework, the government put in place elaborate strategic plans to ensure that quality primary healthcare services are availed equitably to its people through a wide network of community and primary healthcare facilities.
However, access to most services is not optimal as only 52 per cent of Kenyans are able to access health facilities within a 5km radius.
The framework which covers the period between 2019 and 2024 notes that availability and access to services are constrained due to inadequate equitable resource distribution and allocation.
