Armed robbers carried out a violent attack in Kagio town, Kirinyaga County, on Thursday night, leaving a cereal trader injured.
Nadia police commander Wilson Koskei confirmed the incident, stating that the assailants shot the man near his home, causing panic among traders and residents who fled their businesses for safety.
Speaking from Kagio Nursing Hospital, where the man is fighting for his life, he described the harrowing incident stating that three armed individuals accosted him on a motorcycle.
"I was accosted by three armed people who fled on a motorcycle after shooting me. I only heard a gunshot and then saw blood on all parts of my body before I was brought here by a Good Samaritan," he said as reported by Citizen Digital.
The trader mentioned that he was shot in the shoulders before hastily escaping the scene.
He recounted closing his cereal shop around 9:30 pm and taking a boda boda to his residence, only to encounter the attackers at his gate.
"I noticed the three people as I was closing my business, little did I know I would meet the same people at the gate of my house," he said.
He explained that the robbers stole a small amount of money from him and mistakenly took his bunch of keys, thinking it was more money.
"They stole some money that I had in my pocket before making away with my bunch of keys, thinking it was more money," he said.
Koskei said that the police are actively pursuing the suspects and urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
"We are urging anyone with information to report it to the authorities," Koskei emphasised.
